Police respond to woman in distress kill man in California hotel

Police have been called to report that a woman in distress at an Ontario hotel shot dead a man she was with in a room on Monday, Dec. 20, authorities said.

Officers responded to reports of a woman screaming for help at the Quality Inn Ontario airport convention center at 5 p.m., said Constable Eliseo Guerrero, a spokesperson for the Ontario Police Department. Ontario. They were directed to a room occupied by a man and an injured woman.

At least one officer opened fire during the encounter, Guerrero said. The man in the room was shot and later pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman who was with him was taken to a nearby hospital with injuries she sustained before officers arrived, Guerrero said. These were not considered life threatening.

No officers were injured.

The identity of the deceased man as well as other information about the shooting and the events leading up to it were not immediately released. Police had not said whether the deceased man was armed as of 8:30 p.m.

Possible narcotics were found in the room, so hazmat experts were called in to make sure the area was safe to work in, Guerrero said. This caused some delay in the initial investigation.
