Christmas Eve shark attack ends in death on California beach

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A Christmas Eve shark attack in California left one person dead. Morro Bay Police announced the death of sharks on Christmas Eve.

According to the Morro Bay police statement, a surfer off State Parks Beach, north of Atascadero Road, was pulled from the water, apparently injured by a shark attack.

He was found unconscious and pronounced dead at the scene. The port, police and fire departments responded to the scene.

“As we arrived there was a female surfer in the water assisting the victim who apparently saw her a short distance from where she was lying face down in the water,” said the Port Manager of Morro Bay, Eric Endersby. told the San Luis Obispo Tribune.

At this time, the victim has not been identified. The San Luis Obispo County Coroners Office along with state park officials are currently investigating the incident, according to police.

For the 24 hours after Christmas Eve, authorities ordered swimmers to stay out of the water, but areas and beaches in Morro Bay and state parks remained open.
