Chipotle tests Mexican cauliflower rice in California restaurants

Chipotle Mexican Grill is testing Mexican Cauliflower Rice at eight locations in Orange and Los Angeles counties.

Cauliflower rice is a grain-free alternative to white or brown rice that he serves in his burritos, tacos, salads and bowls. It is made with cauliflower chopped so finely that it looks like grains of rice.

The Mayo Clinic has called cauliflower a “nutrition superstar” because it’s high in vitamin C, low in carbohydrates and calories, and has no cholesterol.

Chipotle served Cilantro Lime Cauliflower Rice for a limited time in early 2021. So did El Pollo Loco.

Mexican cauliflower rice is made with sunflower oil, salt and seasonings including cumin, garlic and paprika, according to a press release from the Newport Beach-based chain.

Chipotle has also added a 1990s-themed clothing line to its online store. The 1993 collection pays homage to the chain’s founding in Denver nearly 30 years ago. It includes an anorak, rugby shirt, cap, socks and slides with Chipotle’s original logo and coloring, according to a separate press release.

The chain launched Chipotle Goods as a permanent apparel collection in August 2020, according to the company. Other branded merchandise includes beanies, pride t-shirts, baby onesies and a foil duffel bag that looks like a wrapped burrito.
