The food industry has faced an unstable future for the past 19 months.
Businesses unexpectedly shut down at the start of the pandemic, then restaurant owners faced rehire challenges as cities slowly reopen.
But these seven Californian restaurants survived the turmoil caused by COVID-19 – and they were on the New York Times’ list of America’s favorite places to eat in 2021.
These restaurants have been spotted by food critics, journalists and editorial editors to “reflect the rich mosaic of American cuisine.”
And they sure do.
Three destinations in San Francisco made the cut.
Times food critic Tejal Rao praised Mister Jiu’s, a Chinese-American restaurant in the Golden City and its “laid-back Mamahuhu inspired take-out”.
While you’re in town, grab The Anchovy Bar for “glorious seafoodâSuch as anchovies, oysters, squid, octopus and clams.
Or save room for dinner in Nari – “family style” refined thai restaurant in northeastern San Francisco.
Marshall, an unincorporated community about 80 kilometers north of the city, was also among the most âlively and deliciousâ places to eat across the country.
The Marshall Store serves locally grown produce raw or grilled oysters, as well as local soups, sandwiches and cheeses.
Several Southern California restaurants also made the Times’ “most excited right now” list.
Visit Pearl River Deli in Los Angeles’ Chinese district or try Kaiseki kitchen at n / naka. Mini Kabob – a “small” Armenian family restaurant in Glendale – is known for its, you guessed it, famous “mini skewer. ”
No matter which location you choose, they all have one thing in common.
“All are beckoning us to come back to the table,” the outlet wrote.
